Ricoh PostScript3 Unit Type M54: Which IM Printers Is It Compatible With?
If you've just picked up a used Ricoh IM 370, IM 460F or IM 460FTL and the Adobe PostScript option is missing, the card you need is the PostScript3 Unit Type M54 (EDP code 423511). It's a small SD-card-style module, and once it's inserted, the machine becomes a genuine Adobe PostScript 3 printer.

Which Ricoh machines take Type M54?
Type M54 is designed for the Ricoh IM 300-series desktop MFPs:
- Ricoh IM 370
- Ricoh IM 370F
- Ricoh IM 460
- Ricoh IM 460F
- Ricoh IM 460FTL
If your machine is on this list, the Type M54 is the correct option. Do not mix it up with Type M52, M45 or M44 — those fit the larger desktop and production machines and are not interchangeable.
What does it actually do?
Once installed and activated, Type M54 unlocks the genuine Adobe PostScript 3 printer driver. In practice this means:
- Complex PDFs from design studios, architects and print shops print as the author intended, without shifted fonts or broken layouts.
- The machine renders fonts on its own RIP, instead of relying on the PC to rasterize page by page.
- It opens the machine up to a higher resale value — buyers in print shops, legal offices and design agencies specifically ask for "PS3 enabled" machines.
How to install it
- Power the machine off.
- Open the controller cover on the side of the MFP.
- Insert the Type M54 SD card into the marked slot, label facing out.
- Power on; the machine will recognize the option during boot.
- Confirm under User Tools → Machine Features → Option.
